Located on Ile Saint Honorat, the 3rd-century Abbaye Notre Dame de Lérins is thought to be one of the oldest Christian monasteries in existence today. Its peaceful island setting, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Cannes life, gives the monastery a real feeling of tranquillity. An order of Cistercian monks still lives here today. Whilst some parts of the monastery are closed to the general public, the abbey church remains open for members of the public who wish to join Mass and prayer services. The second of the two Lérins Islands is Ile Sainte Marguerite. Both islands can be accessed by boats which depart from Cannes regularly throughout the day.
